The world renown ancient city of Ephesus is located within the borders of Selçuk district and falls within the area of authority of Selçuk Municipality. A significant part of the institutional identity of Selçuk Municipality consists of the responsibility brought on by this great inheritance of world culture. The studies oriented towards our cultural inheritance are supported by adopting a contemporary approach by especially emphasizes the subjects of research, conservation, promotion and tourism.
When two young researchers from Selçuk came to us with this project, the only thing left for us to do was to support their exciting studies. So we made sure that this study on the subject of Tesserae’s (token-ticket-money), about which there has been no comprehensive publications in Turkey until today, is published in a short period of time. We believe that we have helped the creation of a piece of work which leads to the better understanding and interpretation of daily life, as well as cultural and economic movements in the ancient city of Ephesus.
Within the context of paying our dues to the land we live in, we are happy to present to you the 2nd book titled, “Ephesus Lead Tesserae” of the Selçuk-Ephesus Memories Project, for which infrastructure works continue to be undertaken by the Municipality of Selçuk for the last three years.
The cultural series of Selçuk-Ephesus Memories Project will continue to enlighten you with similar works.
